Hey sweethearts,
It's already February 2017! The month of LOVE. The same month that also hosts the famous Italian San Remo Festival every year. I wish to someday sing on that stage and check it off my bucket list! In the spirit of that, I write this blog today, with the official release of a special composition. I will get to that shortly.
I can't believe how fast time file but I can feel this is gonna be a great year. I've been keeping busy in studio preparing my indie album and working on new videos with my team. I've been waiting for the perfect time to release my latest tracks. They've been chilling in my laptop for way too long. I'm just really taking my time to get them right and I will very soon.
In the midst of all the madness, I've gotten the opportunity to experience something wonderful at a renowned songwriting competition in Italy last October. I am due to finally post this song.—so many of you have asked and I'm finally putting it up on YouTube! I was chosen to represent Canada in the international category of Il Cantagiro. I came back to my hometown with pride and a victory for my performance of "Il Piu Bello Dei Segreti"(composed by myself & Pascal Mailloux). Many of you already know of my Italian background but those who are close to me know how much I care about my Italian roots and culture and what winning this type of competition means to me. I grew up listening to Italian music and a lot of my inspiration came from it. Many Italian stars performed at this show and it was truly an honor to be among these artists. Gratitude is everything and nothing is ever truly done alone… So, I take the time here, to thank those who supported me on this journey. Thank you to Stefano Giorgilli from the Universo Hotel, for his hospitality and kindness, as well as Emidio Buonamici for encouraging me to take on this last minute adventure and putting in the good word. A big thank you to Pat Buttino for sharing his guidance and believing in me to send me to the festival. The contest itself was amazing and took place in beautiful Fiuggi. A little frisky cause we are up in the mountains but "what a gem!". I was really living in the moment and didn't take enough pictures. Although, I regret not taking more, I think that I subconsciously just wanted an excuse to go back and visit again! That being said, the level of talent in Italy is just tremendous. The organizers Enzo, Elvino and Mario were all very warm hearted and knowledgeable of the music industry. I got the opportunity to make friends, contacts and unforgettable memories. This was a last minute decision to participate but I am so glad I did! We miss out 100% on the chances we don't take. New experiences help us to grow and I still feel I have lots to learn. On that note, I leave you guys with my winning composition "Il Piu Bello Dei Segreti''.
Song Background
This song was written in 2012 with composer/arranger Pascal Mailloux during the recording of my first studio album. The track was originally all italian and dressed up with lots of instrumentation. We stripped it down to acoustic and added some english verses bringing it back to life in late September 2016. The song is about an affair or forbidden love… A woman who speaks to her lover about this impossible love that could never be. Although this tends to be viewed as negatively, the emotions in this song are about being content with the love they share and how their love story will always remain a beautiful secret…
